WUTHERING HEIGHTS (1939)

It is much easier for me to just write--express my feelings and opinions--here in my own personal blog slash world. One thing: It will a very long time (trust me!) for me to write a paragraph.. It feels wrong, you know? It just isn't write, like I know there's something wrong with my writing. Perhaps, it's because of my "perfectionist" side. I mean, those essays will be graded by the teacher, but right here, I can write anything, seriously, I mean it, ANYTHING. Who will read it, anyway? I don't care. Not like I know everyone. Or they know me.

I just finished watching the original version of "Wuthering Heights". Here, note this, I've been working on this research project for God knows how long, that I even remember all these stuff! (FYI, I'm not cheating!) It was released in 1939. William Wyler was the director, and the producer was Samuel Goldwyn. It was still in black and white. Young Merle Oberon was Catherine Earnshaw, and Laurence Olivier acted as Heathcliff. Let me think.. Geraldine Fitzgerald as Isabella Linton, and David Niven as Edgar Linton. That's all. :P

For you who don't know this movie.. or never hear about this movie. or NEVER hear ANYTHING, or never hear people mentioning this movie called Wuthering Heights. Allow me to introduce it to you guys.. :)

Wuthering Heights is a classic romance--just like Pride and Prejudice, (Now you're interested, I know that!) but it's a tragic movie! It's a tale of love, revenge, and tragedy. Those three words can perfectly define Wuthering Heights. I think 1939's Wuthering Heights was the best one ever created. Or maybe, it's even better than Emile Bronte's novel? I don't know. I haven't finished reading the book. Sorry, school is insane! I've becoming a classic buff. One thing I like most about Wuthering Heights is its simplicity. The movie omitted the whole second generation--no Hareton, Linton, or little Cathy. It focused less on Heathcliff's wrath post Cathy's death, but more on the complexity of Heathcliff and Cathy's relationship. That's why I love it!

Most people think that Heathcliff was the evil one. I don't know, I don't quite agree with those who say so! I think Cathy was the 'crazy' one. Heathcliff didn't damn break her heart. It was Cathy who broke Heathcliff's and her own heart. How could she say that it would be degrading for her to marry Heathcliff? And in a minute, she went on, blabbing about how she loved Heathcliff. The way she WAS Heathcliff. I remember perfectly what she said. "If all perished, and he remained, I should continue to live, but if everything remained, and he was annihilated, then the world would turn into a mighty stranger." Was she mad??? And she decided to marry Edgar--for his money!! Well, I can't say that she was making the wrong choice for choosing Edgar over Heathcliff, but if she couldn't shove her feeling towards Heathcliff away, then so be it. She didn't have to marry Edgar--in that case, she would break three hearts at one time!

Heathcliff was moody, churlish. He was crazy, full of revenge, bitter, but he was so gentle, tender and sweet, just towards Cathy. I might say that he was one of the most complicated fictional character ever. But since I'm smart (Joking!), I can quite understand him. He decided to marry Isabella, Edgar's sister, to get a revenge. He would destroy everything that separated him with Cathy. All he did was fighting everyone--and everything!--that kept him from being with Catherine. That was how much he loved her. How could she? He even told Cathy to be with him.. she couldn't rest if he was still in the world. she could take any forms, just she couldn't leave him alone in the darkness. he said, "I can't live without my life. I can't die without my soul." Man, how sweet is that? LOL. :p

The characters were perfect. The actors and actresses were just brilliant, they could portray their respective characters just nicely. The cinematograpy was divine, awesome! One of the finest movie! One you have to see.

I AM SORRY FOR THE LACK OF SUMMARY. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, NOT THAT YOU KNOW WHAT I WAS WRITING ABOUT.. ANYWAY, IF YOU WANT, YOU CAN JUST GO ON TO YOUTUBE AND WATCH THE WHOLE MOVIE. YOU WON'T REGRET IT. IT'S A VERY NICE MOVIE. :) FOR ALL THOSE GIRLS (OR BOYS!) WHO LOVE PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, MANSFIELD PARK, ANY CLASSICS, THIS MOVIE SUITS YOU! OH, BRINGING UP THE BABY IS ALSO VERY ENTERTAINING. SEE HOW SMART I AM (THANKS TO PROF. SIERRA AND HIS THEATER CLASS!) LOL.
